Abarbanel Pinot Blanc

Winery: Abarbanel Winery

Year: 2002

Type: White

Country: France (Alsace)

Grape Variety: Pinot Blanc

Note:

Alcohol: 12%

Mevushal: Yes

Date Reviewed: 1/14/07

Color: 2 (of 3)

Note: A dark golden color that looks thick like a cider.

Aroma: 5.5 (of 7)

Note: Strong scents of peaches, green apples and wood. The aroma is a bit harsh and aggressive.

Taste: 7.5 (of 10)

Note: The tart flavor of green apples is certainly stronger than the softer peach flavor. There's an oak flavor at the end of the taste that gives the wine some degree of character but there's not much else here. It's really quite tart and acidic, without the balance of a better Pinot Blanc.

Total: 15 (of 20)

Food: I tried it with a very creamy homemade macaroni and cheese dish. The wine was really too tart to go with the cheese.
