Rashi Pinot Grigio Veneto

Winery: Rashi

Year: 2005

Type: White

Country: Italy (La Morra)

Grape Variety: Pinot Gris

Note:

Alcohol: 11.5%

Mevushal: Yes

Date Reviewed: 8/8/06

Color: 2.5 (of 3)

Note: A bright and cheery golden straw color.

Aroma: 5 (of 7)

Note: Mostly strong melon scents of honeydew along with lighter aroma's of honey and green apple. It has a sticky sweetness to it.

Taste: 6.5 (of 10)

Note: Very lightly bubbled, it's tart and sharp with melon and green apple flavors, but not much to recommend it. There's an aftertaste that's not pleasant at all. It's almost chalky, although that's not the right word for it. It's almost like orange juice that's not quite bad yet but will be in another day ot two. It had a promising beginning, but in the end, I can't recommend it.

Total: 14 (of 20)

Food: I tried a new grilled salmon recipe tonight putting salmon fillets in foil, covering them with the wine plus the juice from half a lime plus garlic powder, onion powder, pepper, basil, oregano, dill and paprika, then grilled it and paired it with a green salad. It's almost poached as it cooks in the wine and lime juice. It's pretty good but I think it would be better with a Chardonnay.
