Backsberg Sauvignon Blanc

Winery: Backsberg Cellars

Year: 2004

Type: White

Country: South Africa (Paarl Valley)

Grape Variety: Sauvignon Blanc

Note:

Alcohol: 13%

Mevushal: Yes

Date Reviewed: 7/26/06

Color: 2.5 (of 3)

Note: A thin but sparkling light paper color. It's so clear you can easily read through it.

Aroma: 5.5 (of 7)

Note: A strong citrus aroma with mild scents of butter and oak.

Taste: 8 (of 10)

Note: It has tart and tangy citrus flavors with passionfruit, peaches, nectarines and limes. There's a light flavor of oak and a lighter flavor of butter in the background. It's a good light summer wine ideally suited to a hot, lazy summer afternoon. Maybe it needs the background noise of a baseball game on a radio while you're laying in a hammock....

Total: 16 (of 20)

Food: I enjoyed it with a grilled teriyaki salmon along with a crisp, fresh salad. It goes very well with the fish.
