Gamla Sauvignon Blanc

Winery: Golan Heights Winery

Year: 2003

Type: White

Country: Israel (Golan Heights)

Grape Variety: Sauvignon Blanc

Note:

Alcohol: 13.5%

Mevushal: No

Date Reviewed: 5/5/06

Color: 2.5 (of 3)

Note: A bright, clear, cheerful straw color.

Aroma: 5.5 (of 7)

Note: It has a musty, earthy smell of nuts and herbs. A much heavier scent than I expected.

Taste: 8 (of 10)

Note: It's an aggressive flavor with tart fruitiness, nuts, pepper spices and a dry finish. If you're looking for a white wine that's subtle and elegant, this isn't it! Try a chenin blanc instead. This is a wine that has a lot to say!

Total: 16 (of 20)

Food: The Gamla went well with baked chicken with a mustard sauce and wild rice with pine nuts. The wine was really well-paired with this meal.
