Herzog Selection Chateneuf White Bordeaux

Winery: Herzog

Year: 2005

Type: White

Country: France

Grape Variety: Semillon & Muscadelle

Note:

Alcohol: 11.5%

Mevushal: Yes

Date Reviewed: 4/14/06

Color: 2 (of 3)

Note: An almost clear, paper color. A very light white wine.

Aroma: 5.5 (of 7)

Note: Soft, slightly sweet smell of hazelnuts, peach and vanilla.

Taste: 8.5 (of 10)

Note: Very nice soft texture. Semi-dry with fruity melon and peach flavors. It would do better with a little age. Unlike most whites, a white bordeaux can age very well and does much better with a few years under its belt. If this was another four years older it could be much better.

Total: 16 (of 20)

Food: I had this with chicken and apple kugel (it's actually quite good with apples). It would also be good with salmon. I think I'll get another bottle and let it age for a while.
