Bokobsa Cuvee du Centenaire Cotes du Rhone

Winery: Bokobsa

Year:

Type: Red

Country: France (Southern Rhone)

Grape Variety: Cotes du Rhone

Note:

Alcohol: 13%

Mevushal: Yes

Date Reviewed: 10/11/07

Color: 2.5 (of 3)

Note: A nice, soft garnet color.

Aroma: 5.5 (of 7)

Note: It's a pleasant aroma but soft and slight. It has short mild scents of cherry, spices, oak and vanilla. It's a brief scent that needs a lot of air to bring it out.

Taste: 8 (of 10)

Note: It's dry with soft to medium tannins. The dominant flavor is licorice, which I didn't pick up in the aroma, followed by cherry, oak and spices. The dryness really comes through at the very end of the taste. The spice flavor is light but tangy. There's a bit of a smokey taste at the finish that adds character. Overall, it's a decent Cotes du Rhone and one of the very few in the kosher market. I'd like to see more kosher Cotes du Rhone, since it's generally a very nice wine.

Total: 16.0 (of 20)

Food: I enjoyed this Cotes du Rhone with turkey burgers on the grill and potato salad. The autumn weather is cooling off and cookouts are winding down but this was a good opportunity to try a Cotes du Rhone with our turkey burgers and the combination worked out quite well. The spicyness of the wine complimented the turkey meat nicely.
