Aroma: 6 (of 7)

Note: The influence of the Shiraz is immediately apparent with a fragrance of spice along with fruit. Cherries, mostly, and some plum combine with pepper and tea for an inviting aroma.

Taste: 9 (of 10)

Note: The winemakers at Beckett's Flat have done it again. This is a terrific blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz that is a delight to drink. Although the Syrah/Shiraz grape didn't originate in Australia, it's clear that Australian winemakers have taken this grape to heart and the Australian soil is ideal for bringing out its best qualities. Here we find a wine that's dry with medium to heavy tannins that build throughout the taste. The plum and black cherry flavors blend very nicely with the spice and black pepper of the Shiraz. A nice, long oaky finish tops it off. Just the right balance between fruit and spice to be a terrific wine.

Total: 17.5 (of 20)

Food: This wine really went well with tonight's meal, which was just a simple spaghetti dish. The Shiraz gives just the right spicy edge to compliment my tomato sauce with lots of garlic, oregano, basil, parsley, choppe donion and crushed red pepper and the Cabernet gives it enough fruit to be easy to drink. Very nice!
