Note:
Wow! This wine is packed with flavors that explode in your mouth. You'd better have the right meal prepared for this one! Powerful flavors of plum, pepper, beef and earth combine with a surprisingly smooth texture to form a wine that's aggressive and refined at the same time, like a thoroughbred racehorse. For my taste, it's a little too much like a thoroughbred racetrack, so it misses out on a recommended score. But if you happen to like earthy, beefy wines, this one could be a good choice for you. It's sort of like a Chianti without the biting spicyness.
Total:
15.5 (of 20)
Food:
The only meal that would go well with this wine would be a beef dish baked in a tomato gravy with lots of garlic and, as luck would have it, that's just what I had! The meal gave the wine it's best opportunity to show its stuff and it held up as well as it could. I couldn't imagine this Carmenere with any other meal, though, and that really limits it.
