Color:
2 (of 3)
Note:
A dark ruby color that's a bit murky.
Aroma:
4.5 (of 7)
Note:
The aroma is hurt by a strong alcohol scent right at the beginning. Behind that, there's a strong oak scent from 14 months in the barrel along with blackberries and plums.
Taste:
5 (of 10)
Note:
This Bordeaux style blend is plagued by a strong alcohol content and it really shows in the taste. A dominant flavor of alcohol overshadows everything else the wine is trying to do. There are flavors of oak and blackberry. If there are other flavors, and I suspect there are, I can't find them under the avalanche of alcohol taste. It is very dry with strong, biting tannins, but that doesn't save it. I think I like NyQuil better!
Total:
11.5 (of 20)
Food:
I had this with a chicken dish that's usually very good with red wine. The chicken is coated with egg and flour and quickly fried in oil. Then you remove the chicken and add chopped onions and chopped tomatoes, then add white rice and tomato sauce, put the chicken on top of the rice and cover until the rice is done. This is a great chicken dish for red wine. That is, except this red wine! What a disappointment!
