Cantina Gabriele Montepulciano d'Abruzzo

Winery: Cantina Sant'Andrea

Year: 2003

Type: Red

Country: Italy

Grape Variety: Montepulciano

Note:

Alcohol: 12.5%

Mevushal: Yes

Date Reviewed: 12/5/06

Color: 2 (of 3)

Note: A flat, heavy ruby color.

Aroma: 5.5 (of 7)

Note: Heavy scents of plums, pipe tobacco, spices, black cherries and balsamic.

Taste: 7.5 (of 10)

Note: Dry and sharp with strong tannins and aggressive flavors of tobacco, spices, black cherries, balsamic and plums. It's a hearty dry red table wine best suited for beef dishes. Like many Italian wines, the flavors really jump around on your tongue. It's really too aggressive, almost pushy, with a taste that's like licking an ashtray. There's no subtlety here at all!

Total: 15 (of 20)

Food: I had it with a steak sandwich and fries. If you're a smoker, you might enjoy this flavor more than I did. Have it with a thick steak and good luck with your cholesterol!
