Color:
2.5 (of 3)
Note:
A deep, rich garnet color typical of a well-aged French Bordeaux.
Aroma:
5.5 (of 7)
Note:
Complex aroma's of cranberry, raspberry, oak, balsamic, cigars and earth are hindered by a sour beginning in the scent that quickly fades. I can't vouch for the condition the bottle was kept over its life and that could be a factor.
Taste:
7 (of 10)
Note:
Medium dry with light-to-medium tannins, this 2000 Bordeaux has aged enough for the flavors to really blend to their fullest. Like a good soup that's been slowly simmering for days, the flavors have merged to create their own unique taste. There are cranberry, raspberry and cherry flavors along with oak, spices, balsamic and earth. But, again, there's a small sour taste that harms what would otherwise be an exceptional wine. I have no reason to think this particular bottle wasn't stored properly before I acquired it but that could be one explanantion for the sourness in it. If I can find another bottle, I'll try this again, so consider this a tentative score.

Food:
I had it with a Caprese salad with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The balsamic flavor in the wine made it a good choice for this dish as it matched the acidity quite well.
