Color:
2.5 (of 3)
Note:
A very nice, rich-looking garnet color.
Aroma:
5.5 (of 7)
Note:
Lots of ripe berry flavors are overwhelmed by an oak scent that's too strong. There are balsamic and spice aroma's that try to come through but seem trampled by the wood scent.
Taste:
8 (of 10)
Note:
Very dry, with sharp, biting tannins, this Cabernet Merlot blend is rich and chewy. It's filled with plum and berry flavors and a strong oak flavor. I think 16 months in oak barrels was probably too long for this wine, unless you're looking for a woody flavor. There are decent balsamic, spice and smoke flavors in the background, but they're treated like second-class citizens.

Food:
I had it with a caprese salad with fresh mozzarella, roasted peppers, tomatoes and olives topped with black pepper, balsamic vinegar and olive oil. I seem to have this meal often with new wines but I always enjoy it!
