Efron's Cave Triple Red Label

Winery: Noah Winery

Year: 2003

Type: Red

Country: Israel (Judean Hills)

Grape Variety: 33.3% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33.3% Merlot, 33.3% Syrah

Note:

Alcohol: 13%

Mevushal: Yes

Date Reviewed: 10/4/06

Color: 1.5 (of 3)

Note: A muddy, murky purple that's too thin at the edges.

Aroma: 5 (of 7)

Note: Plum and cherry aroma's with smaller scents of oak and spices. Not bad except for a slight sour smell that costs it.

Taste: 6 (of 10)

Note: This Triple Red Label is plagued by a harsh and sour taste. I'm really hoping that it's just a bad bottle that's not been stored properly. There are cherry and plum flavors trying to come through but they're drowned out by the high acidity. You would think it just has to be a bad bottle and I should try it again. On the other hand, there's no body to this wine at all. That's not from bad storage and that makes me think this is as good as it gets. Too bad!

Total: 12.5 (of 20)

Food: I had it with falafel with pita bread, hummus, tahini, moroccan matbucha and a cucumber and tomato salad. I had hoped the Syrah blend would match the spices of the matbucha but it came up far short.
