Chateau Roc de Boissac Grand Vin de Bordeaux

Winery: Chateau Roc de Boissac

Year: 2000

Type: Red

Country: France (Saint-Emilion, Bordeaux)

Grape Variety: Merlot and Cabernet Franc

Note:

Alcohol: 12.5%

Mevushal: No

Date Reviewed: 9/18/06

Color: 2.5 (of 3)

Note: A beautiful and rich dark garnet color. This is just what a Bordeaux should look like.

Aroma: 6.5 (of 7)

Note: Wonderful aromas of ripe black cherries, currants and blackberries teamed with subtle and soft cigar, oak and smoke scents. It's sophisticated and elegant in the very best Bordeaux tradition.

Taste: 6.5 (of 10)

Note: Ouch! A wine with so much promise stumbles in the most important category, taste. It's medium-dry with nice tannins and light blackberry, cherry and tea flavors along with a nice, underlying nutty oak flavor. Sounds great, doesn't it? But there's a vinegar flavor running through it that hinders it badly. The long dry finish only serves to remind you of its unfulfilled potential. What a disappointment!

Total: 15.5 (of 20)

Food: I had it with spaghetti and meatballs. The meal was terrific and the wine had every opportunity to show itself but failed. Too bad!
