Sieur D'Arques Premium Reserve Pinot Noir

Winery: Les Caves du Sieur D'Arques

Year: 2003

Type: Red

Country: France (Languedoc Roussillon)

Grape Variety: Pinot Noir

Note:

Alcohol: 13%

Mevushal: Yes

Date Reviewed: 8/10/06

Color: 2 (of 3)

Note: A dark, heavy purple color. Not bad for a wine so young. It will look better when it's older.

Aroma: 5.5 (of 7)

Note: Aroma's of ripe berries along with wood, spices and a little balsamic. It's pleasant, but there's not quite enough there. I expect a livelier scent from a Pinot Noir.

Taste: 9 (of 10)

Note: Now we're getting somehwere! I was little down on this wine in color and aroma but it makes up for it in taste. For a Pinot Noir it's surprisingly dry with heavy tannins but there are delicious flavors of blackberry and black cherry along with pepper and oak. It's high in acidity but still rich in flavor. It finishes with a long, dry, smokey taste that slows your senses. Drink at a leisurely pace and enjoy! If you really want to get the most out of it, let it age another 3-4 years and it will be outstanding.

Total: 16.5 (of 20)

Food: I had this with a salsa tuna, which is a tuna steak lightly covered with olive oil, salt, pepper and lime juice grilled and served with a heaping spoon of hot salsa on top. I paired it with a small salad. The spicyness of the salsa matched with this Pinot Noir very nicely. A wonderful meal. I live like a king!
