Date

Color:
2.5 (of 3)
Note:
A very dark, rich ruby color.
Good clarity and depth.
Aroma:
5 (of 7)
Note:
There's a nice fruity smell
of plum that's not too sweet. There's also a strong wood smell,
almost like a carpenters shop. But the problem is a heavy
smell of alcohol that costs it points.
Taste:
9 (of 10)
Note:
Very dry with strong tannins.
Very oaky. Once you get past that, and it is distracting,
there are very nice flavors of plum, cherry and pepper to
be found. There are lighter flavors of blackberry, tea and
smoke lingering in the shadows that add to the wines complexity.
Personally, I think there is too much oak here, but after
2 years in the barrel, what can you expect? On the other hand,
if you like big, oaky red wines, you'll love the terrific
blend of flavors that are here. It's the extra time in the
barrels that brings out the fine smokey finish, and for some,
it's worth waiting for.
Total:
16.5 (of 20)
Food:
Since we're in full summer
mode (and just recovering from some 100+ degree days) we had
turkey burgers and corn-on-the-cob on the grill. Like I always
say, a good Cabernet is always welcome at the barbeque!
