Saslove Cabernet Sauvignon

Winery: Saslove Winery

Year: 2003

Type: Red

Country: Israel

Grape Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon

Note: Aged for 6 months in French oak barrels

Alcohol: 13%

Mevushal: No

Date Reviewed: 8/4/06

Color: 2 (of 3)

Note: A deep ruby color with good, strong legs. It's just a little muddy.

Aroma: 6 (of 7)

Note: Deep berry and oak aroma's with a little vanilla. Strong cherry scents with some blackberry added in.

Taste: 9 (of 10)

Note: Strong flavors of cherry and blackberry along with pepper, oak and a slight taste of smoke. The spicy pepper flavor is in just the right proportion to give it just a little edge, a little character, without going overboard. It's medium-dry with manageable tannins that don't overpower the palate. The Saslove Cab is filled with subtle and sophisticated flavors that keep you coming back. Highly recommended!

Total: 17 (of 20)

Food: I enjoyed this Cabernet with tacos. Yes, tacos! I know it's very different from our usual chicken on Friday nights but the spicyness of the taco meat really complimented the pepper flavor in the Saslove. Nicely done!
