Color:
2 (of 3)
Note:
A medium garnet color but it's
a little thin at the edges. It should retain its color all
the way through but it thins out and is almost clear at the
edge of the glass.
Aroma:
6 (of 7)
Note:
Very strong aromas of blackberry,
oak and black cherry. You don't even need to put your nose
to the glass to smell it. It fills the air. There are also
lighter scents of pepper and plums. Very aromatic.
Taste:
8.5 (of 10)
Note:
The Petit Castel is Domaine
du Castel's second label. It's very dry with full tannins
and lots of oak. You can tell it's been in the barrel a long
time. Strong blackberry, pepper and oak flavors along with
plum, cherry and a slight smoke flavor at the end. Drink it
slowly and it grows on you. It's a very long and expressive
flavor.
Total:
16.5 (of 20)
Food:
I would normally have something
like this with a beef dish but tonight I had it with an asian
dish of garlic chicken. It's a pretty spicy dish and strong
enough to stand up to such a powerful flavor in the wine.
