Barons de Rothschild Haut Medoc Bordeaux

Winery: Barons Edmund Benjamin de Rothschild

Year: 2001

Type: Red

Country: France (Medoc)

Grape Variety: Bordeaux blend

Note:

Alcohol: 12.5%

Mevushal: No

Date Reviewed: 7/6/06

Color: 2.5 (of 3)

Note: A medium garnet color with long legs that hang on the glass.

Aroma: 6 (of 7)

Note: A meaty scent with lots of wild cherries, black pepper, oak and leather.

Taste: 9 (of 10)

Note: It's a medium-bodied Bordeaux with soft flavors. A nice balance of tannins, acidity and fruit with complex flavors of cherries, blackberries, currants, nuts and oak. It starts sweet and fruity in the mouth and the tannins build as it lingers. It's a very mature flavor and a classic French Bordeaux.

Total: 17.5 (of 20)

Food: I thoroughly enjoyed this Bordeaux with a grilled tuna steak smothered in cajun seasonings along with a salad topped with fresh tomatoes from the garden. Delicious! This would also go great with a steak - it's aroma's call out for it. A real winner!
