Barkan Reserve Merlot

Winery: Barkan Wine Cellars

Year: 1999

Type: Red

Country: Israel

Grape Variety: Merlot

Note:

Alcohol: 13%

Mevushal: No

Date Reviewed: 4/24/06

Color: 2.5 (of 3)

Note: A dark, heavy, rich, full-bodied garnet. Very nice.

Aroma: 5.5 (of 7)

Note: Hints of fruit, wood and nuts but there's also a slight medicine smell to it and it loses points.

Taste: 8.5 (of 10)

Note: Very dry with cherry, oak, nut and smoke flavors. There's a little sweetness of berries at the end that's very nice and adds to the long finish. It's a nice Merlot but not as good as the Segal's or Yarden. If it didn't smell like cough syrup, it could have been right there with the leaders....

Total: 16.5 (of 20)

Food: I had it with meatloaf and a baked potato. Now, how American can you get? No, really, I did!

Compare to :

Binyamina Special Reserve Merlot

Segal's Galilee Heights Merlot Special Reserve

Yarden Merlot

Gamla Merlot
