Ramon Cardova Rioja

Winery: Ramon Cardova

Year: 2003

Type: Red

Country: Spain (Rioja region)

Grape Variety: Tempranillo

Note:

Alcohol: 14%

Mevushal: No

Date Reviewed: 4/13/06

Color: 2.5 (of 3)

Note: Very deep, dark and rich looking.

Aroma: 6 (of 7)

Note: Sharp, strong berry scent with a hint of balsamic vinegar. It's earthy and spicy.

Taste: 8 (of 10)

Note: A rich nutty flavor with blackberries. Nice and spicy pepper flavor with good length. I tried the Rioja Crianza earlier and liked it's more mature flavor better but this one could age just as well on its own and be a nicer version in the end. "Crianza" means it was aged in the cellar at least a year so you would expect that one to have been better than this one, but it wasn't.

Total: 16.5 (of 20)

Food: There's just something about a Rioja and lamb that makes such a wonderful pairing. If you haven't tried this for your seder, you should.
