Color
2.5
A creamy looking straw color. It's a firmer, richer looking wine than the Herzog.
Note
A light paper color that looks clear and crisp. Surprisingly good legs on the glass. Lighter than Segal's but looks good in its' own way.
4.5
Aroma
6
Hints of flowers, wood and vanilla but there's also a bit of a mossy scent that loses points. These aren't even close. The Herzog is much more inviting.
Note
Sweet and fruity with tones of butter and vanilla. Delightful and light. Clearly superior to the Segal's and a real difference maker here.
8
Taste
8.5
Strong flavors of nuts and figs with lighter flavors of vanilla and fruit. It has a light sweetness to it, though not as sweet as the Herzog. It has stronger nut and fig flavors.
Note
Light and sweet with tropical fruit, vanilla and slight tastes of fig and nuts. A very good light wine ideally suited to summer. It has much more of a tropical taste to it than the Segal's. It's a well-blended combination of flavors with fruit rightly dominating.

A final word....

I've been looking for a Chardonnay I'd be willing to buy again and I think I've finally found it. I've been disappointed quite often, particularly with California Chardonnays. There was an article recently about how California wines have surpassed French wines in quality (and the French are pretty upset about it) but I certainly have not seen that in the kosher market.

The Herzog Chardonnay Vin de Pays is the clear winner today with better scores in aroma and taste. It's clearly the better wine. I've enjoyed several different red wines from Segal's but their Chardonnay is not quite up to the task. France beats California again.
