Hello,
I'm The Kosher Wine Guy. While wine has always had a sacramental
purpose central to Judaism, and plays an important role in
religious observance, it's equally important in everyday life.
Wine makes a table complete. It brings out the best in food,
and vice versa. It slows down the frantic pace of life. In
short, wine is good for you. While your doctor may tell you
about the supposed health benefits of wine, including a reduction
in the rate of cardiovascular disease, stroke, cholesterol
and cancer, wine also has important historical and cultural
significance. We are drawn to wine almost instictively. The
fact that wine has been produced in every corner of the world
for centuries must tell us something!
Unlike
other wine critics, I'm convinced you can't fairly and accurately
judge a wine by itself. Wine
is meant to be experienced with food and wine tastings are
better suited to a meal. Also, I don't believe in tasting
ten wines at a time. Swishing a sip in your mouth, spitting
it out and moving on to the next wine doesn't count as tasting
wine in my book. You need to really experience the wine, to
enjoy everything it has to offer, and there's only one proper
way to do that: You need to sit at a table with people you
love, eat a meal you enjoy, match it with the proper wine
and share in the experience. That's what living well is all
about!
Of
course, all wine tastings and scores are totally subjective.
But that's the point. What I give you is my opinion. What
counts most is your opinion. My reviews are nothing more than
a starting point. I won't bore you with pompous pronouncements
about a wines temperment or architecture or other such nonsense.
I just call 'em as I see 'em. I'll tell you what I think about
a wine and why and you're always free to disagree.
For
instance, I admit right from the beginning that I have a preference
for Merlots (the drier the better) and, although I try to
be fair in my reviews, I admit to a certain bias in my rankings.
If you're not a Merlot fan, you'll just need to keep that
in mind when looking at the rankings and adjust your own opinion
accordingly. I think I'm pretty fair.
What
I hope you'll gain from KosherWineGuy.com
is a greater appreciation of the variety of excellent kosher
wines available today and a keener sense of your own likes
and dislikes. Use what you learn here to supplement your own
opinions about wine, food and life. Enjoy!
